The Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) for Transport Managers course is essential for those seeking a career in road haulage management. It is the minimum qualification required for holding an Operator Licence.

Each course will run to coincide with the formal Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) examinations, which are scheduled at regular intervals throughout the year.  The Certificate of Professional Competence (Road Haulage) is divided into two assessments - Multiple Choice (R1) and Case Study (R2). To obtain the qualification, a candidate must pass both units.

All the relevant materials required to prepare for the exams are included. Courses are delivered live, online, in a ‘virtual classroom’ by our fully qualified trainers.

About the Course

Transport Manager CPC Course – Road Haulage
Duration
10 Days
Including two days of revision and 1 examination day. Candidates are recommended to set aside extra time for additional study andrevision prior to examinations.
Examination Day
  • Multiple choice examination (R1) 2 hours.
  • Case study examination (R2) 2 hours 15 minutes.
  • An email will be sent from CILT, prior to the examinations, with full details on how to access the online exams.
This qualification is recognised throughout the transport industry.
Demonstrates that the holder is qualified to be the nominee for a Standard National or International Operator Licence.
Equips the candidate with the knowledge required to establish and manage an efficient road haulage operation.

It provides updated information on recent legislative changes, including the latest drivers' hours regulations and operator undertakings, and will refresh existing knowledge of the key topics covered in the CPC course, which are vital to effective and compliant transport operations.

The course covers various aspects of the ongoing management of an Operator Licence:

  • Understanding the principles underpinning the Operator Licence system
  • Understanding the level of commitment and activity needed to create effective management control systems
  • Clearly communicating requirements to other staff

  • Daily defect reporting system; maintenance schedules; the recording and monitoring of vehicle inspections and scheduling tachograph calibrations inspections

Tachographs:

  • Analogue tachographs: trace identification; centre-field requirements; hand written entries

  • Exemptions - which operations are exempt from tachograph regulations, including Domestic Rules
  • Systems for filing and storing charts and digital data
